In 2003 I did a series of portraits of veterans, all members of the Vimy Branch of the Legion. The series hung at Pier 21 for awhile: I got on TV, but didn't get rich or famous (per usual). Still important, though.
"I had the time of my life on those motorcycles! If they were shootin' at me, I didn't know, 'cause they never got me!"
"And then I saw 'Canada' on the shoulder patches of the bodies floating as I swam: that's when it hit me."
"We did it because it had to be done."
"Every time I smell diesel I see the tanks running over those guys."
"I was a conscientious objector, you know, so I carried stretchers."
